Gluten free since June 2003, I lead a celiac/ gluten intolerance group in Virginia. My passion is educating folks on gluten issues and showing how eating gluten free can be easy if you focus on "real" foods versus processed and specialty foods. Read more...
I always take Gluten Defense immediately before I eat out or immediately before I eat in another person's home as a preventive measure against accidental "glutening." It has saved me major misery many times. It contains enzymes which helps break down the gluten protein and get it out of one's system more quickly. If I realize that I have, in fact, been glutened, I take this product for an additional 24 hours. To be clear, this or any other such product is NEVER to be consumed to allow one to intentionally consume gluten. Although this is an over-the-counter supplement, please consult your medical professionals to ensure that this product is right for you.
Hyland’s Veratrum Album
I keep one bottle of this product (which is about the size of a tube of lipstick) in my purse and one in my "gluten emergency" supplies spot. A few sublingual veratrum album pills can often stop a gluten reaction cold for me. Although the label says that veratrum album is used for vomiting and diarrhea, I find it helps for almost all my symptoms after being glutened. Consult your health care professional before taking this remedy. And never take more than the recommended dose or take this product and never take this product to intentionally eat gluten.
L-glutamine comes in either powder or capsule form. It's known to be very healing to the gut. In powder form, it can be added to liquids, like smoothies.
Also available: L-Glutamine Capsules
Activated Charcoal Capsules
Activated charcoal is another product that can help greatly with detox. It was recommended by my doctor and has helped me when I've been glutened. I take it as soon as I know. Consult your medical professional before consuming.
Bio-Kult Advanced Probiotics
There are so many choices for probiotics. This one is a broad spectrum probiotic, which I take on a regular basis. I can't tolerate all probiotics well and some don't seem to make a difference in my well being, but I do well with this one. I take more than my regular dose after being glutened. Consult your medical professional for the best choice for you.
Also available: Acidophilus Pearls
This pineapple enzyme is known for breaking down proteins and is also known as an anti-inflammatory. Consult your medical professional.
Epsom salt can be very effective in detoxing per my medical professionals and my personal experience. My doctor advises using them no more than twice a week. Consult your medical professionals as needed.
Also available: Swan White Mountain Epsom Salt
