This Gluten-Free Lemon Chess Pie is the gluten-free version of my sister’s favorite Lemon Chess Pie. She has loved this pie for years but I’ve never tried it because it was not gluten free.
When I had lemons that needed to be used recently, I thought “now is the time!” and asked her for the recipe. Which she immediately sent. (Thanks, Susie!)
As I explained when I shared the Gluten-Free Chocolate Chess Pie recipe, a chess pie is a simple Southern pie made with basic ingredients.
I know those characteristics are the hallmark of chess pie recipes but I will admit that I was surprised when I saw the ingredients—or more accurately, the number of ingredients—in the recipe. Only four ingredients are required to make the filling.
You gotta love that, right?
I decided to make this pie for a luncheon get together with friends last weekend and planned to take my time and take a bunch of photos. However, “the fates” meant I ended up making this pie late at night, taking photos by the light of my range hood, and then not snapping any additional photos until we were actually sitting down to eat together at lunch time.
Everyone who was present said they loved this pie! I know that I did and I do!
I really lucked out and ended up with a small slice of the pie to take home, which I happily ate for breakfast the next morning!
This Lemon Chess Pie is perfectly lemon-y in my opinion. Which means that some of you—those of you who like intensely lemon treats—may think it’s not quite lemon-y enough. LOL
Of course, far better than the pie itself was being able to share it with my beloved friends. I hope you have some loved ones to enjoy this pie with and that you all will love it!
I thought I might make this Gluten-Free Lemon Chess Pie again immediately and take some pretty photos but timing is not right for that now either. But you all need this recipe, so here it is! Perhaps I will share some prettier photos later.
And of course, as always, if you take any pretty photos when you make this recipe and want to share them, you can email me at [email protected]. I don’t allow photos in comments on my Facebook page because of all the spam comments and I don’t have the Messages feature active there for the same reason. But I absolutely love getting photos from readers via email and often share them in posts here on gfe and on Facebook.

Gluten-Free Lemon Chess Pie Recipe
This Gluten-Free Lemon Chess Pie is simply the lemon version of the classic Southern chess pie. It's just the right amount of lemon-y in my opinion and so easy to make with only four basic ingredients in the pie filling. I like to use either my original Gluten-Free Never-Fail No-Roll Press-In Pie Crust or the newer version, which includes some almond flour. This pie can be served at room temperature or chilled. Refrigerate after serving.Gluten-Free Lemon Chess Pie
