When:  Tuesday, March 20, 6:00 pm

Where: Shirley’s Home in King George, VA (Note: Please email Shirley for directions if you are local and plan to attend.)

What:  We’ll start our meeting with our usual shared group meal. This month’s theme will feature everyone’s favorite—pizza! Plus, to properly commemorate St. Patrick’s Day, we’ll have a “co-theme” of green dishes.  Green salads and veggies will complement our pizzas well. We’ll be sure to have pizzas that are not only gluten free (like this Flourless Pizza and Kate Chan’s “Chebe” Pizza), but we’ll also have some pizzas that are dairy free, and some that are grain free or both. Plus, there will be vegetarian options, too. In addition, the folks at Gluten-Free Matzo and Hail Merry have sent us some of their samples to enjoy. Expect my gluten-free, dairy-free Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream to make an appearance, too.

SO Lucky Gifts of Manassas, Virginia, will be giving our presentation. (Update:  Sadly, this company is no longer in business.) One of the founders, Carey Greene, and Heather Lichtenfels, Vice President of Marketing, will be joining us. SO Lucky Gifts is a purveyor of gourmet gluten-free food and gifts. They’re the folks you can call when you want a gift package of gluten-free foods (and more) delivered. From SO Lucky Gifts’ website:  “We have personally tasted and tried every product we offer.  In fact, the products here are our favorites – the best we’ve found – and those of us who don’t need to avoid gluten can’t tell anything is missing!  We also understand that avoiding gluten is difficult, so we provide ingredient information from each package, as well as information from our manufacturers on their processes (when products have not yet been certified gluten free).”

Hope you’ll be able to join us for our March meeting!

Hi Shirley – I live in Charlottesville, VA and was wondering if there is a good GF group down this way that you are familiar with. I’ve heard of one in Richmond, but don’t know much about it. Any insight? thanks, Jackie

Hi Jackie–Welcome to gfe! 🙂 I have some really great news for you! There actually is a gluten-free support group right in Charlottesville! I was honored to give a presentation to the group last summer. 🙂 The group is called CharlottesVILLI and is affiliated with the University of Virginia Health System. Here’s a link that shows their future meeting dates, contact info, newsletter, etc.: http://uvahealth.com/services/digestive-health-1/support-resources/celiac-support-group While the site only references those with celiac, when I was there last August, I’m certain there were members with both celiac and non-celiac gluten issues. It looks like their next meeting is March 27th. Hope you get to go! And yes, there’s a terrific group in Richmond, too—Gluten Intolerance Group of Richmond. I was on their Core Council for several years. You can find their info here: http://www.gluten.net/local-branches/virginia/richmond/default.aspx Hope all that helps! So sorry that we’re not close enough for you to join our group … darn it, we have so much fun! But feel free to also join in my virtual support group here on gfe, where each month I’ll share the presentation from my actual support group meeting, our food, a giveaway, etc. and ask readers to join in with comments, what they’d brng to our meeting, etc. We had our first one last week: https://glutenfreeeasily.com/gfe-virtual-support-group-march-2012/ While the giveaway has ended, please feel free to read and comment! 🙂

      Shirley
