Yesterday (April 26) was National Pretzel Day. Did you know I have a collection of The Best Gluten-Free Soft Pretzel Recipes here on gfe?
Perhaps you didn’t because it was embedded—and sort of lost, to be honest—within an epic collection of The Best Gluten-Free Bagel Recipes Plus Breadstick, Croissant, English Muffin, and Soft Pretzel Recipes. (It’s part of my ongoing Bountiful Bread Basket series.)
As that collection of amazing recipes grew, it became a bit of a bear so slowly but surely, I have broken the recipes in each of those categories out into their own separate collections/posts.
So far there are The Best Gluten-Free Bagel Recipes, The Best Gluten-Free Croissant and Crescent Roll Recipes, and The Best Gluten-Free English Muffin Recipes. Today adds The Best Gluten-Free Soft Pretzel Recipes. And in the not-too-distant future, I’ll put the breadstick recipes (yum … breadsticks!) in their own separate post.
But today it’s all about soft pretzels! I will confess that being able to enjoy a gluten-free soft pretzel safely while out would be so wonderful.
I have never had that experience. Have you?
I occasionally visit a favorite local winery, Backporch Winery—usually with some dear girlfriends. One of their most popular food offerings is their Charcuterie Pretzel.
Doesn’t it look terrific? Unfortunately, it’s not gluten free. (But I still highly recommend Backporch Winery if you’re in my area. Their wine is excellent and the owners are such lovely people.)
My gluten-full girlfriends totally enjoy the Charcuterie Pretzel and I can understand why they do! (Because this winery graciously allows you to bring in your own food, I usually take my own cheese and gluten-free crackers.)
Until gluten-free soft pretzels become commonplace when dining out, we’ll have to make our own. I think that being able to enjoy our own charcuterie pretzels is definitely a great incentive!
This collection includes “just gluten-free” recipes, gluten-free and dairy-free recipes, grain-free recipes, paleo recipes, keto recipes, and more.
And if you don’t want to have to worry about shaping your pretzels or enjoy bite-sized treats as much as I do, try one of the recipes for soft gluten-free pretzel bites!
I can’t wait to hear back on your pretzel-making experiences!
~ The Best Gluten-Free Soft Pretzels from Fearless Dining ~ gluten free, vegetarian, with dairy-free, egg-free options

~ Easy Gluten-Free Soft Pretzels from Gluten-Free Respect ~ gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, vegetarian
Debbie uses a popular gluten-free mix to make her soft pretzels. She says: “These turned out so good today that I just had to share! I made a mini version because I didn’t want to “have-to” eat a huge pretzel. As it turned out, I ended up eating four of these right away, one after the other. SO good! Soooo, here they are: gluten-free soft pretzels.”
~ Gluten-Free and Grain-Free Pretzels from GAPS Diet Journey ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, primal, GAPS
Starlene emphasizes that different brands of ready-made almond flour and coconut flour can yield different results.
Reader reviews: “I have made these twice. I just ground up my own almonds in my Vitamix and it worked perfectly. Recipe was spot on and the kids love them. Thank you for being so wonderfully creative.”
~ Gluten-Free Hot Soft Pretzels from Jeanette’s Healthy Living ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegan
This recipe was the one that introduced me to Jeanette’s blog many years ago!
Reader reviews: “Hello and thanks for the delicious recipe. I just made these tasty pretzels!” and “Great recipe, thank you! As well all know, some gluten-free foods look like the real thing but taste like the cardboard box they come in, with a similar texture. These pretzels really taste like soft pretzels and the texture is very close as well. Thank you for sharing such an easy, great-tasting recipe.”
~ Gluten-Free Soft Pretzel Bites from A Few Shortcuts ~ gluten free, vegetarian, with dairy-free, egg-free, vegan options
Reader reviews: “These turned out great! When she said you cannot tell they are gluten free, it is not an exaggeration. We found the dough very easy to work with and used ingredients I always have in hand for gluten-free baking. Thanks for sharing!” and “I’m in complete shock at how amazing these are. No one knew they were gluten free. The big problem is that they are insanely Addicting!! I’m going to turn these into bagels next time, they’d be perfect!” and “What a great recipe! The dough was easy to work with and pretzels were delicious, even the next day. We mixed a few that were left over in a pan with butter and cinnamon sugar—better than the ones at the mall!”
~ Gluten-Free Soft Pretzel Bites from Let Them Eat Gluten-Free Cake ~ gluten free, vegetarian
Kim says you’ll be the MVP if you make these Soft Pretzel Bites for Game Day. And I believe her!
Reader reviews: “Made these tonight and they were so easy and turned out so good. I’ve missed mall pretzels so much and these satisfied some major pregnancy cravings! Definitely a new family favorite!” and “We made these pretzel bites today & loved them. Definitely making them again—it’s a keeper recipe for sure!”
~ Gluten-Free Soft Pretzels from Simply Quinoa ~ gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, vegetarian, with egg-free option
Alyssa says these are awesome, soft, salty, gluten-free pretzels!
~ Homemade Auntie Anne’s Gluten-Free Pretzels from Better Batter ~ gluten free, egg free, vegetarian, with dairy-free option
Patrick Auger says: “I developed this recipe for our customers using both of our amazing flour blends. The pretzels that inspired these are a staple in many malls across America. The secret to this recipe is the sweet cream butter in which the finished pretzel is literally bathed. These are best served warm, fresh out of the oven, with salt or cinnamon sugar.”
~ Keto Pretzel Bites from All Day I Dream About Food ~ gluten free, grain free, sugar free, vegetarian, keto, primal
Carolyn says: “These tender keto pretzel bites are made with coconut flour fathead dough. Totally nut-free, not to mention absolutely delicious!” She added that she usually uses her air fryer for menu items like chicken wings, pork chops, and fish sticks but she “decided it was time to shake things up a bit and do a little air fryer baking. First stop: Keto Pretzel Bites! I was blown away by how well these turned out. Puffy and soft, with a wonderful chewy pretzel texture.”
Reader reviews: “Omg. I just made these and they are delicious.” and “These are quick and easy, and super yummy! I like to sprinkle them with everything bagel seasoning and serve them with softened cream cheese.” and “Made these pretzel bites today, they were AMAZING!!!! Very very good! Thank you so much for the recipe! I’ll be making these a lot!”
~ Mall Style Pretzels from Let Them Eat Gluten-Free Cake ~ gluten free, egg free, vegetarian
Kim says: “No more longing for Auntie Anne’s style pretzels! The golden buttery flavor of these gluten-free mall style pretzels will satisfy your craving 🥨”

~ Paleo Soft Pretzels from Zenbelly ~ gluten free, grain free, refined sugar free, vegetarian, paleo, primal, with egg-free option
Simone said: “Boy howdy, did these Paleo Soft Pretzels give me a run for my money. Some recipes are easily adaptable from their gluteny originals, some are not. These were the latter.
She added: “Nevertheless, I persisted. And behold: The Paleo Soft Pretzel. As is usually the case: If you have questions about ingredient subs, the answer is I don’t know. (See recipe notes for one exception)
I cannot know without testing the recipe with the ingredient you want to use, and the recipe that follows is the result of many hours in the kitchen and millions of dollars in ingredients.
I’m only exaggerating a little bit.”
