Hello, gfe bagel lovers! I hope all of you are reading today because you’re in for a real treat! When I originally shared the best gluten-free bagel recipes in my Bountiful Bread Basket series, I shared them with a lot of other wonderful recipes. Specifically, they were in Part 7: Top 50+ Best Gluten-Free Bagel, Breadstick, Croissant, English Muffin, and Soft Pretzel Recipes.
Well, that turned out to be way too many recipes to peruse at once! So, bagel lovers, now you can enjoy these recipes without the distractions of other bready recipes. Plus, I’ve updated this collection of the best gluten-free bagel recipes with even more options from your favorite recipe creators. (Note: All photos are reprinted with permission of the individual authors/photographers.)
Wow! There are so many terrific gluten-free bagel recipes available now! I am totally impressed. And some of them are so easy to make, too. I know I’m ready for an amazing gluten-free bagel; how about you?
~ Best Gluten-Free Bagels from Allergy Free Alaska ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, xanthan gum free, vegan
Megan says: “Most store-bought brands of gluten-free bagels are made with eggs. But these soft vegan gluten-free bagels are completely egg-free! They also taste much better (IMO) because they’re baked fresh, from scratch. And did I mention this recipe is naturally dairy-free, corn-free, nightshade-free, soy-free, and xanthan gum-free too?”
Reader reviews: “5 stars! Excellent!”
~ Chickpea Flour Bagels from Power Hungry ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, egg free, refined sugar free, vegetarian, vegan
Reader reviews: “These are a lot of fun to make & came out great on the 1st try. If you’ve been missing bagels, I guarantee you’ll enjoy them. Thanks for the recipe, Camilla – looking forward to making up all kinds of crazy bagel flavors going forward!” and “Delicious! Your directions and tips were so helpful. I love the texture! So easy and so yummy; I will definitely make them again and again. Thank you for this great recipe.”
~ Cinnamon Raisin Bagels from Fearless Dining ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegetarian, vegan
~ Cranberry Orange Bagels from Fork and Beans ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegan
Reader reviews: “Just made these and they came out great! thanks!!!” and “I made these this evening, and they tasted amazing! I substituted lemon zest for orange and golden raisins for cranberries and the end result was delicious.”
~ Easy Gluten-Free Bagels from GF Jules ~ gluten free, with dairy-free, refined sugar-free options
Reader reviews: “Wow! They are just wonderful, tasty bagels! 😋 I’ve made them with your g.f.jules flour by scratch ( this time and the batch was huge!) or I’ve made them with your gf sandwich bread mix.” and “I just tried your bagel recipe. It is beyond amazing!
I used an egg wash to help the “everything” goodies to stick. Otherwise, followed the recipe to the letter. The dough was wonderful to work. I used the stand mixer with the paddle…perfect texture. No gooey, sticky GF batter. It came off the paddle and bowl like “real” flour. Making the bagels was fun, and the results are awesome.”
Reader reviews: “These came out great!!! No need to buy bagels ever again. Thanks so much for posting this. I can’t wait to make another batch.” and “Holy Cow! These are AMAZING. I have made them twice now (the first time, I made 8 bagels and the second time, I made 6). I used poppy seed, dehydrated minced garlic and onion, and onion powder with a little kosher salt. My husband who is not gluten intolerant raved about these and promptly ate two!” (Note: You’ll probably want to read all comments on this recipe as readers made a number of substitutions successfully in this recipe.)
~ Gluten-Free Bagels from Fearless Dining (either made with yeast or using yeast-free sourdough option) ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, sugar free, vegetarian, vegan, with yeast-free option
Reader review: “I made these bagels today and they are yummy! The crunchy-chewiness on the outside is perfect. I boiled them for 25 seconds on each side, added an egg white wash, then baked them for 20 mins. They were nicely golden brown on top.”
~ Gluten-Free Bagels from Free Range Cookies ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
I love that Linda gives us a quick-rise method and lots of variations for her delicious chewy bagels. Including cinnamon-raisin, garlic, and pumpernickel/rye style. She even tells you how to use the dough to make pizza crust or use leftover bagels to make mini pizzas.
~ Gluten-Free Bagels from Let Them Eat Gluten-Free Cake ~ gluten free, egg free, vegetarian
Reader reviews: “My 2-yr old and I are both gluten free. I just made this dough as bagels and pretzel bites this morning for us. I’m obsessed!” and “Kim, this is an outstanding recipe. I tried another g/f bagel recipe from a g/f cookbook from another blogger. The bagels were flat and dense and not like bagels at all. These are the. Best. Bagels. Ever. I hail from NJ and we’re used to chewy bagels. These are better than any bagel shop’s non g/f bagel. My husband was almost in tears! Thank you so much!”
~ Gluten-Free Bagels from Mama Knows Gluten Free ~ gluten free, vegetarian, with dairy-free, vegan options
Reader reviews: “I’ve made these bagels twice now and they are better than I ever expected! My youngest son and I both have celiac disease and he had never even tasted a bagel before. Not only do he and I love them, but my gluten-eating husband and other son are loving them too which means they’re REALLY GREAT!” and “Oh my! These are hands down the best gluten-free bagels I have ever eaten! These were fun and easy to make!”
~ Gluten-Free Bagels from No Gluten, No Problem ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
Reader reviews: “I just made these and they taste awesome!!! just like normal bagels.” and “Wheee! Just a note to say YES! These are a win! I’m from upstate NY, and can’t have gluten anymore. I also can’t have dairy, soy, or eggs. This recipe worked great using the Ener-G egg replacer instead of the egg whites in the bagels, and I just used olive oil instead of the egg wash and that worked to. Held sesame seeds and onion flakes. Big win, thank you for sharing.”
~ Gluten-Free Bagels from Nourishing Meals ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, gum free, vegetarian, vegan, with refined sugar-free option
Reader reviews: “These are excellent. I made them today with my son.” and “I made these earlier this week and they turned out great, every one is asking for more so I am going to make a bigger batch and put some in the freezer this time. They are so easy and quick! The only thing I did a little different was use a little less yeast (2 1/4 TBS instead of 3) because I used a packet that has that amount. They were plenty fluffy and chewy.”
~ Gluten-Free Bagels from Pamela’s (made using Pamela’s Gluten-Free Bread Mix) ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
Reader reviews: “This is a fabulous recipe. I refuse to buy cardboard GF bagels from the store ever again.” and “I made these in 1/3 cup portions and shaped them with wet hands instead of oily because I’ve found it works better for me. They were fantastic! Baked 20 minutes & could have used a couple more to get a better crust but they taste amazing and are a great texture. Boiled with a bit of molasses in the water to mimic the flavor of malt in “real” bagels and topped with homemade everything blend. YUM.”
~ Gluten-Free, Allergen-Friendly Chewy Bagels from Adventures of a Gluten-Free Mom ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, with egg-free option
Heidi used her recipe to make all the gluten-free bagel favorites, even these Pizza Bagel Bites. She even did a cost analysis for her recipe for which she used Better Batter Flour. The results? $5.00 for 10 of her homemade gluten-free bagels!
Reader review: “Thanks so much for this recipe. I just made a batch and they turned out great! This was my first attempt at making bagels (gluten free or not). Your pictures were very helpful.”
~ Gluten-Free Bagels: Cinnamon Raisin or Onion Poppyseed from The Spunky Coconut ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, egg free, yeast free, vegan
Reader reviews: “They came out great and my son loved them, both of which are always exciting.” and “This is the first, and I mean the first baked good that my son has liked since he’s had to go on a very special diet with no grains, no sweeteners, no eggs and no dairy. I have tried many things, but this is the only one he’s liked. I made the bagels plain without the honey or cinnamon and raisins. He wants to eat them every day, all day long he says! Sending you love and gratitude from Texas!!” I’ll add my own review, too. I’ve eaten these bagels made by Kelly herself and they are phenomenal!
~ Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free Bagels from Angela’s Kitchen ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
Angela said that she got her two most important tips from a bread-making class conducted by Pete and Kelli Bronski of No Gluten, No Problem: “The nifty bagel hole making and the par-bake before boiling tip. They were perfect ideas to help me take my own recipe and make it successful.” She added: “I gotta tell you, when we bit into these bagels, there was dancing in my kitchen.”
~ New York Real Bagels from Better Batter ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
~ Grain-Free, Paleo Bagels from Laura’s Gluten-Free Pantry via the Wayback Machine ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, gum free, refined sugar free, yeast free, vegetarian, paleo, primal
Reader reviews: “Just made these this morning. They turned out really delicious. I made them exactly as the recipe calls for and baked them for 25 minutes. The outside is golden and the inside is like the picture. I was able to cut it and put it in the toaster to warm up on a light setting. I am pretty much at sea level, so 25 minutes worked well for me. Thanks for this great recipe.” and “What a great recipe! I just made these and it was hard not to eat just one. I had mine as a fancy sandwich. I did change the recipe to use 1 cup freshly ground millet in place of 1 cup of the almond flour for $$ savings. I topped mine with two kinds of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, kosher salt and dried onion. Oooooh.”
~ Gluten-Free, Vegan Bagels (with lots of flavor variations!!) from Petite Allergy Treats ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegetarian, vegan
Reader reviews: “Just made these today, and I love love love them! I’m planning on slicing and freezing to take with us on a little road trip. (There isn’t usually GF options for me when we travel to small cities.) They are so good they don’t even need anything smeared on them! YUM! Thanks for the great recipe!” and “Delicious! I followed the directions exactly and they were great! Thank you!!!!”

Reader reviews: “I made these yesterday and could not believe how good they were. You are brilliant! I’ve always been intimidated to make vegan gf breads but not anymore since I found your blog.” and “These were fantastic!!! Even my seven year old (who is not vegan or gluten free) loved them! Fantastic recipe.”
~ Keto Chewy Bagels from All Day I Dream About Food ~ gluten free, sugar free, vegetarian, primal, keto
Reader review: “Great recipe! Very easy to make with your clear and thought out explanations. I made them plain then toast the toppings (everything seasoning and onion) on a cookie sheet. Then I toast the bagel spread on cream cheese and dip the cream cheese part of the bagel in the toasted toppings to get more on! Lol”
~ Keto Protein Bagels from All Day I Dream About Food ~ gluten free, grain free, sugar free, vegetarian, low carb, keto
Reader reviews: “I made them today. They are fantastic – great flavor, texture, looks!” and “Great recipe! Quick, easy, tasty. Will definitely be making again. Used it to have a morning bagel with egg and cheese.” and “I just made a double batch of these protein bagels. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I would like them–I’ve never had a recipe of yours that I didn’t wish I had made more of, so this time I went big. They are delicious, and I ate one at work today. Tonight, I’m going to serve them with chicken salad garnished with a little bit of bacon–it’s Valentine’s Day, and I know my husband will appreciate the gesture of bacon!” and “I baked these in the convection oven in my very small RV, using the jar of my stick blender to process the cottage cheese. I say all that to emphasize how terrific they are. I can see how easy they’d be to make in a real kitchen.”
~ Low-Carb Croissant Bagels from Beauty and the Foodie ~ gluten free, grain free, gum free, yeast free, primal, keto, with refined sugar-free, sugar-free options
Reader reviews: “Made these last night, love the texture. Great recipe! Thank you for sharing.” and “Made these and they were great, HUGE thank you!!!”

Reader reviews: “I just made these and I can’t tell you how happy I am with the way they turned out…..PERFECT!!!!! The entire family loved them including the kids….one doesn’t like coconut or pumpkin but LOVES these.”
~ New York Style Sun-Dried Tomato Bagels from Jenn Cuisine (this site is no longer operating) via The Wayback Machine ~ gluten free, vegetarian
Some of Jenn’s recipe photos are not available on her blog right now, so I’m sharing a photo of an adaptation of these bagels from my friend Heather (formerly Gluten-Free Cat) blog. Heather’s review is excerpted below.
By the way, Jenn’s recipe was an adaptation of Maggie’s (She Let Them Eat Cake) bagel recipe (which is also included in this roundup). Let all that info inspire you to adapt recipes as needed/as you wish. Quite often, it works out beautifully!
Reader reviews: “I am stunned. I am truly amazed. Scoop my jaw up off the floor, because I actually made my own bagels today! The house smells like a New York deli, and that Husband better hurry up and get home soon, because I’ve already eaten half of my first bagel. We’re having bagels for dinner tonight!”
~ Paleo Bagels from Elana’s Pantry ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, gum free, yeast free, vegetarian, paleo, primal
Reader reviews: “I’ve made the bagels and they’re wonderful.” and “I made a cinnamon raisin variation – 1/3 organic thompson raisins, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1/8 tsp nutmeg. I have also been using extra-large cage-free eggs and a Wilton donut pan. I get wonderful bagels that the whole family loves.” and “I’m not much of a baker, but these are easy and taste good.”
~ Paleo Bagels (Starch Free, Vegan) from Forest and Fauna (this site is no longer active so I have linked to the recipe via The Wayback Machine) ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, egg free, gum free, yeast free, vegan, paleo, primal
Reader reviews: “Thank you very much Andrea for sharing this recipe. I never leave comments but I must say it brought me so much joy when I tasted it!!!! Being on a strict diet make us forget some flavors and sensations, I felt like I was eating regular bread! I can’t eat applesauce so I simply left it aside, I replaced vinegar with Kombucha and magic happened anyhow.” and “Made my second batch this time and added some bacon. I like to try it with some herbs as well. They are wonderful, thank you for all your work.”
~ Paleo Cinnamon Raisin Bagels from Beauty and the Foodie ~ gluten free, grain free, gum free, refined sugar free, yeast free, primal, with dairy-free, sugar-free, paleo option
Reader reviews: “I have been craving bagels something fierce since going low carb a few weeks back. Thank you! I made a batch yesterday, and the texture is amazing!” and “I love these! I made a batch yesterday and they’re nearly gone! The cinnamon raisin flavor is incredible and I’m excited to make another batch and maybe play with some more flavor combinations My brother (who is very NOT paleo) said they tasted almost like Dunkin’ Donuts cinnamon raisin bagels– can’t argue with that!”
~ Paleo Mini Bagels from Elana’s Pantry ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, gum free, sugar free, yeast free, vegetarian, paleo, primal
Reader review: “Thank you so much for this great recipe! I’ve developed several autoimmune diseases over the past 6 years … so I have a lot of food restrictions. It’s been years since I’ve eaten a bagel and have missed them so much. These turned out great and definitely reminded me of my old life 🙂 ”
~ Paleofied Cinnamon Raisin Bagels and Paleofied Mini Pumpkin Bagels from Real Everything (formerly Paleo Parents) ~ gluten free, grain free, dairy free, gum free, yeast free, paleo, primal, with egg-free, vegan options
Stacy and Matt took Kelly’s (The Spunky Coconut) recipe and tweaked it to suit their needs. Stacy says: “The pumpkin flavor [in the pumpkin bagels] is faint, so we put pumpkin butter on them to really bring out the flavor – yum! Almond butter and apple butter made great “sandwiches” on the cinnamon raisin ones too.”

And the result? A moist, soft, chewy, tender bagel with a rich, balanced flavor that closely mirrors the pumpernickel of our memory.”
