Here’s my collection of The Best Gluten-Free Focaccia Recipes (20 Recipes) from my Bountiful Bread Basket series. Previously, these recipes were in my epic collection of the Top 50+ Flatbread, Focaccia, Naan, and Pita Bread Recipes.

Yes, it was an epic roundup but it was a lot of recipes to consider at once. I decided these Focaccia recipes needed their own space on gfe. And it’s a lot easier to peruse 20 recipes instead of 50, right? (But FYI, you can still find the Best Flatbread, Naan, and Pita Bread Recipes here.)
Wednesday, October 16, was World Bread Day, which reminded me that I wanted to highlight these focaccia recipes because I think “alternative” bread recipes can be a very satisfying solution for folks who are in search of a great gluten-free bread recipe but haven’t yet found success with gluten-free loaves of bread. Although I think there are some great gluten-free loaf options in other parts of my Bountiful Bread Basket series (Top 20 Best Gluten-Free Bread—Loaves, Top 20 Best Gluten-Free Bread Machine Recipes, and Over 50 More of the Best Gluten-Free Bread Recipes), I also think these focaccia recipes might be a solution you haven’t considered.
Focaccia is an Italian bread and a flatbread of sorts. It’s typically baked in a flat pan (although pizza stones and cast iron skillets are sometimes used) but it’s thick and crusty with a soft fluffy center. It’s usually made with yeast (although there are a few yeast-free recipes here) and it’s typically topped with olive oil, salt, and herbs. Focaccia is often topped with other delicious ingredients (e.g., onions, bacon, olives) as well. You’ll quickly see that by perusing the best gluten-free focaccia recipes below!
Note: Some of these recipes include oats. Test results for oat products—even gluten-free oat products—have been a mixed bag the last several years, with some testing gluten full. Please, if you’re continuing to eat oats, be sure that the brand you’re consuming is using certified gluten-free purity protocol oats and test results have shown them to be truly gluten free. I recommend that everyone subscribe to Gluten-Free Watchdog to see actual test results of gluten-free oat products (and all kinds of gluten-free products for that matter), whether they’re made from certified gluten free purity protocol oats or they’re simply labeled gluten free.

I’m thinking: eggs benny, with bacon and this bread below. Yeah? Yeah. I think so.”
~ Gluten-Free Focaccia from Carol Fenster Cooks ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
Carol says: “Focaccia is a flatbread, similar to pizza. One of the easiest yeast breads you will ever make, this downsized recipe is full of flavor. It makes a 4×8-inch loaf that is about one-and-a-half inches high. Like most gluten-free yeast breads, this one is best when eaten the same day it is baked.”

~ Gluten-Free Focaccia from Quirky Cooking ~ gluten free, dairy free, egg free, refined sugar free, vegetarian, vegan
From Jo: “This might not look a lot like the Focaccia you’re used to, but it really does taste good! It has a yeasty, pizza dough flavour, but it’s light and fluffy inside with a crispy crust underneath… I’m thinking it would be good as a pan pizza base too (or pizza pie), if you pre-cooked it a little before adding the topping.”
Reader reviews: “I made this today, I had to use tapioca flour instead of potato starch but it came out lovely. My 3yo even liked it!” and “All I can say is WOW! I also used tapioca starch as I didn’t have potato starch, and it turned out amazing! My family loved the bread more than the soup we had it with, and my daughter just asked me to make some more so she could eat it for lunch at school!”
~ Gluten-Free Focaccia Rolls (I have linked to an archived version of this recipe via the Wayback Machine as the following site is no longer active) from The Gluten & Dairy Free Bakehouse ~ gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, vegetarian
Kylie says: “Ethan loves these rolls! They’re sturdy without being crumbly and are soft and moist. The sprinkling of sea salt and Italian herbs on top gives a great burst of flavour too. As Ethan is always hungry (like every teenage boy), I’ve made them a decent size so that he can fit as many fillings as he likes in there!”

Reader reviews: “Thank you for this recipe. I modified it to be vegan. No eggs in our diet. AgagAgar flakes (Eden brand) instead of xantham gum, and EnerG egg replacement … This bread is light airy and packed with flavor, my herbs are homegrown rosemary, thyme, marjoram and sage, finished with smoky sea salt and porcini sea salt, topped with cherry tomatoes halved and green peppercorns in brine. Baked in a 12 inch cast iron skillet ! I’ve been making it every week for the past month. Husband loves it!” and “I have been making this for several years for all occasions, even when I don’t have to have a gluten-free version. It’s delicious, especially when served warm with homemade honey butter.” and “This is one of the best gluten free bread recipes. Everyone loves it and really can’t tell that it is gf! I use a combination of powdered rosemary and fresh to really get the herb flavor. I usually serve it with homemade honey butter!”

~ Gluten-Free Focaccia Bread with Tomatoes from Gluten-Free Spinner ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
Mary says this bread is: “light, airy, and moist, but it’s also full of flavor and needs nothing but a knife. I could barely contain myself from cutting into the loaf as it cooled because the aromas were intoxicating. Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and roasted tomatoes filled my kitchen with temptation.”
Reader reviews: “Yummy! So many to try. Made the Focaccia bread and tomato last night and it was a big hit. Can’t wait to try some others.”

~ Gluten-Free Focaccia Sandwich Bread from Gluten Free Spinner ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
Mary reports that she started with a recipe from Gluten-Free Gobsmacked who started with a recipe from Donna Washburn. She says: “I’m thrilled to report that I also love this recipe, it delivers a soft, flavorful, versatile bread that is simply delicious. The dough is a batter consistency rather than the traditional mound of rising dough, and it’s poured onto a baking sheet and cut into slices. The golden brown outer crust holds its texture and the inside stays soft and moist. It may not be the thick-sliced bread of times past, it may just be better. I added my spin to the recipe with herbs, final preps, and serving options, and it’s consistently a great recipe.”
~ Gluten-Free Focaccia Wraps from Gluten Free Spinner ~ gluten free, vegetarian
Mary shared: “This is not a very thick focaccia, it’s thinner, light, airy, and soft. I use it for gyros, sandwich folds, toasted breakfast sandwiches, and paninis, and it stays wonderfully soft for days. And the best part is it tastes good! The recipe is easy too with a simple batter poured into a jelly roll pan, then a quick rise and short bake time.”
Reader review: “I made these as soon as Shirley (gfe) shared them on Facebook and spent almost an hour trying to track them down tonight because I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t printed/saved them. They were amazing … perfect for sandwiches and easy to make. Thank you for sharing this recipe! These will be a monthly, possibly weekly, addition to our lunch menu.”

~ Gluten-Free Keto Focaccia from All Day I Dream About Food ~ gluten free, grain free, sugar free, vegetarian, keto
Carolyn says: “We love to just dip it in olive oil and sea salt. And you can even use this keto focaccia for paninis, if you split the pieces in half through the middle.”
Reader reviews: “I just made this keto Foccacia. It was amazing! So much flavor!” and “I love this recipe. I’ve made it a bunch of times, sometimes with variations like adding olives and cherry tomatoes to the top before baking. So good! I mix herbs, salt, and pepper with olive oil for dipping.” and “Very easy to make! I used a lot of fresh rosemary from my garden and it came out delicious. Will make again.”
~ Sun-Dried Tomato Focaccia from Gluten-Free Goddess ~ gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian
Karina says she made this bread with sun-dried tomatoes that “were delightfully tender and not too chewy. I like my sun-dried tomatoes to resemble fruit, not leather. They gave this rustic bread a rich, Italian-inspired flavor.”
Reader reviews: “Love this focaccia and so does my very fussy husband!” and “This is one of my favorite recipes!” and “I LOVE this recipe! I’ve been making it for years now and my entire non gluten free family loves it too!”

Katrina says: “It’s a great weekend to bake some bread. And I don’t mean warming up some sorry store bought frozen gluten-free bread stuck with ice crystals on it that resemble what’s ticking at your window pane like so many NFTs of ice. I mean freshly baked, warm from the oven, fragrant, tender, rustic bread. The kind of nubby, crusty loaf that conjures the word hearth (such an antique word) and home (now a literal, medical refuge for so many of us). What I’m talking about is a delicious, home baked loaf that is just plain good for the soul. And you just don’t get that in a frozen plastic package. So crank up the oven and bake up some love.”
Reader reviews: “I saw this over the weekend and had to try it out – so easy and soooo delicious – thank you! I too have spent time in Italy and am so thrilled to have the chance to eat focaccia again!” and “We *love* this focaccia! Can’t wait for tomatoes to be back in season to make it.” and “We made this focaccia last night! It was absolutely yummy! We are making it again today. One thing I learned is don’t add extra water. It made it take longer to bake. But when I realized what was happening, I took the bread out and cut it into wedges and then put it back in the oven on cookie sheets and baked 15 minutes more. It turned out just fine.”
